There are lots of templates and activities around to help teams plan the work they need to get done, but teams also need to spend time on the team itself, and how they can be at their best, to do that work successfully. That's where the Team Direction Map template comes in.
You can fill out this template as a group either in Drawify itself, or export it as an image and place it as a background in your collaboration canvas of choice, such as Miro or Mural. Start by capturing ideas about your collective purpose: why are we here? What impact do we want to make? The, move down the 'balloon' and capture ideas about your collective work: how will we achieve this purpose?
The rest of this template is a bit like a SWOT canvas. As a group capture your advantages (strengths) and opportunities. Also, capture your risks: what might 'blow you off course', or otherwise get in your way? What are the right roles and responsibilities needed on the team to get the work done? And do these properly line up with where each team member is at? This can often be very insightful.
When you are finished, try to summarise each section into one sentence, or a few bullet points. Export your Team Direction Map as a PDF or image, and print it as a poster to put up on a wall near where everyone in the team works (or make it available online in a common intranet page or Teams page).
- Clear shared understanding of WHY the team is doing what they're doing
- Improved communication and collaboration among team members
- Increased clarity and alignment on goals and objectives
- Greater clarity on roles and responsibilities
Allow at least 2 hours to do this Team Direction Map as a group. If time, try to capture a sentence to write in the 'basket' of the balloon: what is this team's 'secret sauce'? What can it do that comes easier to your team than for other teams? How might you capitalize on that?
Customize the layout, content, and colors of this template, or swap elements for others to match your purpose.
