Often we get stuck trying to make a decision because we're worried about what might happen. We might fixate on the 'worst case scenario', when often this scenario has a lower probability of happening, compared to other scenarios. This template helps you and your group make a decision by being clearer about all of the various scenarios that might happen.
To use the Best Case/Worst Case Analysis template, start by writing down the decision you need to make (or the action you're undertaking). Then, brainstorm the positive outcomes that could result from your decision or project, and create a list of those under "best case scenario." Next, consider the negative outcomes that could result if things don't go according to plan and write these underneath "worst case scenario."
Finally, evaluate the likelihood of each outcome and the potential impact it could have. This information will help you make a more informed decision, as you can weigh the potential risks and rewards associated with your decision or project.
- Increased clarity about potential risks and gains
- Improved decision-making and risk management
- Enhanced communication and collaboration among stakeholders
- Greater alignment of goals and objectives
- Increased preparedness and proactive planning for potential scenarios
If you do this as a team, spend time analysing the map of scenarios together. What does this tell us? What could we do to increase the likelihood of the best outcome?
