About Me

I’m Ben, a designer, strategist, facilitator, visual thinker, and author. I've been in digital design (drawing) for about 25 years. I’ve drawn product user interfaces, storyboards, personas, conceptual models and much more. I've been a keen sketchnote artist(2009), and a graphic recorder (scribe) for a while now. My work uses simple drawing to help people make sense of complexity and ambiguity, so that they can think better, solve problems better, and just generally be more awesome together.

What I offer

At Atlassian (where I used to work), we had a joke that the company had a sign posted everywhere: "If in Need of Facilitation, Break Glass and Remove Ben"! I have a knack for getting teams un-stuck, and for unlocking new solutions to any problem. I do this by being able to synthesise complex information on the fly, by asking smart questions to help people get out of the rut of familiar thinking, and by visualising and re-framing whatever the situation is. You will often see visual metaphors used in imaginative ways in my work. I also enjoy teaching visual thinking and visual communication skills, so any workshops that I run tend to raise the capability of whatever team I'm working with.
